We will be screening the documentary "Für Immer" (For Ever, 2023) followed by Q&A with the film's director Pia Lenz in conversation with Sunka Simon, Professor of German and Film & Media Studies at Swarthmore College and the daughter of Dieter and Eva Simon, the subjects of the film.
Description of the film:
Eva and Dieter first danced together in 1952. They got married, built a house and had three children. They had fights, they had doubts, they overcame crises and they got old together. Now Eva is getting weaker. Once more, they set out on a new path together as a couple, look back at the happy moments and face the inevitable. In her finely-observed documentary, award-winning filmmaker Pia Lenz shows how a love that lasts for decades begins and how it endures. Old photos, letters and diaries give humorous and unsparing insight into the inner life of a long-term relationship. This poetic film explores our deep-seated desire for a connection that lasts forever.
