Korean Studies Minor
This minor recognizes students who have undertaken a concentrated study of the language and culture of Korea.
Requirements
All students new to SLLC courses must take the online World Language Placement Assessment (WLP) before registering for classes.
Prerequisite Courses for the Korean Minor (6 Credits)

Note: Students with prior experience in Korean may satisfy these prerequisites with an appropriate World Language Placement Assessment (WLP) score.

Students may take more advanced courses for credit:
- In a Study Abroad program
- At other universities in the D.C. Consortium of Universities of the Washington Metropolitan Area
- At other campuses of the University of Maryland system / UMBC Korean Program
Three courses in Korea-related studies from fields such as history, sociology and art history (9 credits)
At least one of these courses must have broad East Asian content to provide breadth to the minor. See Testudo for the current list of course offerings
Notes:
At least 9 of the 15 hours required for the major must be at the 300-level or above. No more than 6 of the 15 credits toward the minor may be transferred from Study Abroad.
