Craft and Creativity: George Pelecanos ’80 in Conversation
Author and film producer George Pelecanos ’80 returns to UMD to share his insights on the writing process and tell stories about his experiences publishing novels and producing timely and dramatic television shows during this conversation presented by the Jiménez-Porter Writers' House Living-Learning Program.
Pelecanos is known for his work on HBO’s "The Wire" and "Treme" and frequently collaborates with fellow Terp David Simon '83. Pelecanos has written 20+ books mostly in the detective fiction genre, and most of those are set in the Washington, D.C., area. He is co-creator for the HBO series "The Deuce" and, most recently, "We Own This City." Pelecanos was also creatively involved in HBO’s World War II mini-series "The Pacific" as a co-producer and writer.
As a prolific writer, Pelecanos continues to be actively involved with the creative process with additional projects in the works. This special event is free and open to the public.
