Mei Kong’s educational background includes a B.A. in Chinese language and Literature, an M.A. in Chinese Linguistics, both from Nanjing University, and an M.A. in TESL from Georgetown University. She also completed a Graduate Certificate in American Studies at The Johns Hopkins University -Nanjing University Center. She started teaching at UMD in 2005. Before that, she taught at Nanjing University, Grinnell College and Georgetown University. She also served as director of the CIEE Study Abroad Program at Peking University. She once travelled in Tibet in the back of a truck along with two leaking gas tanks. Her teaching interests focus on the role of language assessment in language learning. She is a Certified ACTFL OPI Workshop Presenter/Facilitator, OPI Tester, ACTFL OPIc Rater, WPT Rater and ILR OPIc Rater.
