Scholarships

The purpose of this award is to provide annual need-based scholarships for students from the Metropolitan Washington, DC area accepted into Language House.

Eligibility

• Current or admitted Language House Program participants
• Originally from the Metropolitan Washington DC and Baltimore County area(Northern Virginia, DC, Prince George’s, Montgomery, Howard counties, in Maryland

Established in 2015 to support merit-based scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students majoring in French, Italian, Spanish or Romance Languages.

Eligibility

• Undergraduate Majors in French, Italian, Spanish, or Romance Languages
• Minimum GPA of 3.2

Established in December 2000 to support scholarships for students studying foreign language who have a long-term vocational desire to apply their language skills to a field such as architecture, law, business, translation, public policy, or government service.

Eligibility

• Majors in French, German, and Japanese
• Minimum GPA of 3.5

A merit-based scholarship for undergraduate and graduate SLLC students who graduated from a public high school in Maryland.  

Number of Awards:

• 1 award of $800

Eligibility

• Undergraduate language major in SLLC
• Graduated from a public high school in Maryland
• Minimum GPA 3.0
• Priority to students from high schools in Washington, Garrett, or Allegany counties.
• Priority to previous recipients (for up to eight semesters)

A merit-based scholarship for undergraduate SLLC students.

Number of Awards:

• 1 award of $300

• Arabic Flagship Scholarships of up to $15,000 for intensive Arabic study abroad on the Arabic
  Flagship Capstone year.
• Arabic Flagship Scholarships of up to $7000 for intensive Arabic study abroad on an approved
  summer program.
• Arabic Flagship Scholarships of up to $3500 for intensive Arabic study on an approved domestic
  summer program, including the UMD Arabic Summer Institute.
• UMD Summer Language Institute Scholarships of up to $1500 for intensive summer study of
  Arabic at the Summer Institute.
• Boren Scholarships of up to $25,000 for overseas study of Arabic.
• Critical Language Scholarships for overseas summer study of Arabic.
