Six teaching assistants honored by SLLC undergraduates
Each year our undergraduate students are invited to nominate a TA who has positively impacted their learning and commitment to language teaching throughout the year. We had six nominations: Samuel Blank, French - Daniela Bulansky, Spanish - Marie Laverdiere, French - Madeline Muravchik, French - Takehiro Iizuka, (SLA) Japanese and Sofía Maurette, Spanish.
The review committee awarded Daniela Bulanksky (SPAP) the 2021-22 Outstanding TA Award for SLLC. One of her nominations stated: "Profesora Bulansky is a fun and engaging teacher. She is good at pushing her students to speak in class and she is good at making class activities interesting, but she is also careful to make sure that everyone is comfortable in class, and will not call on someone who is nervous to participate. Being in her class is a positive start to my Tuesday and Thursday mornings.
Marie Laverdiere (SLAA/FREN) was awarded the Excellence in Language Teaching Award for First year TAs. Marie's nominee wrote: " Mme Laverdiere has made me realize that my goal of being proficient enough to complete my family history and dig into the French Canadian and French records is within my reach. She has made learning fun and accessible to me and the rest the of the class. While I was already pretty motivated to learn the language for purposes of my own narrow focus, she has made me eager to explore French language films and literature and the overall French culture. She has expanded my horizon in thinking about where Francophiles are located in the world and made me curious to visit some of those places, like Guadeloupe."
