Students of SPAN371 Participate in Community Outreach at Maryland Day
This past weekend at Maryland Day 2017, students of SPAN 361 put their Spanish skills in action while raising public awareness about health. This yearly event transforms the UMD campus into “Terp Town Center,” where visitors can enjoy live musical performances, get a bite to eat, and learn more about our schools and colleges. Lead by Dr. Evelyn Canabal-Torres, SPAP students engaged in experiential learning and bridging theory and practice by exercising the cultural and linguistic skills learned in their Spanish for the Health Professions class in a real world setting. Their campaigns focused on a broad range of topics, from HIV awareness to healthy diets on a budget. Here’s to community outreach en español!
