Congratulations Language House Graduates!

This semester, seven current and former Language House students are graduating! We asked them to provide us with some information about their plans, and we wish them the best in their future endeavors.

This semester, seven current and former Language House students are graduating! We asked them to provide us with some information about their plans, and we wish them the best in their future endeavors.

Matthew Bicknell (pictured, left) has been a member of the French Cluster for three semesters, with a break in the middle to attend the Maryland-in-Nice program. Matthew will be graduating with a degree in French, and plans to continue his education in pursuit of an M.P.S. in Translation. Matthew hopes to then work as a translator for film and TV.

Stephen Coyne has been a member of the French Cluster for four semesters, and also participated in the Maryland-in-Nice program. During his time at UMD, Stephen earned the Banneker Key Scholarship and the Donald-Hirsch Scholarship, as well as an Entrepreneurship and Innovation Honors Citation and the AATF Excellence in French Award. Stephen will be graduating with a double-degree in French and Mechanical Engineering. He is planning to move to Madison, WI to work as EDI Engineer for Epic Systems.

Mary Gumerov has been a member of the Russian Cluster and studies natural resource economics and soil science.

Siena Fouse has been a member of the Spanish Cluster and will be graduating with a double degree in Environmental Science and Policy, and Spanish.

Marisa Fried was a member of the Spanish Cluster for two semesters. During her time at UMD, she earned an ARHU Dean's Senior Scholar award, as well as the Philip Merrill Presidential Scholar award. She is on track to graduate summa cum laude with a double degree in Spanish and Linguistics, with a US-Latino Studies minor. Marisa is planning to spend some time working for the Montana Conservation Corps managing trails in the Northern Rockies and interning for the non-profit Therapists Beyond Borders, but hopes to return to graduate school in the future to pursue either a Ph.D. in Linguistics or an M.A. in Speech-Language Pathology (she hasn't decided which!).

Elissa Dallimore from the Arabic Cluster and Erin Reilly from the Russian Cluster are other former members who will be graduating this semester.
