Language Chats
The Language Chats provide you with the opportunity to meet in a casual setting with speakers of each language. You also have the chance to meet peers who want to brush up on their language skills in a casual context in the comfy lounge at St. Mary's Hall.
The Language House is a multicultural community in which residents work together to develop fluency in a target language and an appreciation of the historical, geographical, and sociological world of the target culture(s). As part of its mission, the Language House seeks to engage the larger community of language learners on campus.
All are welcome to come practice, improve, or maintain language skills in a casual setting over coffee and snacks. Every Monday, we open the doors of St. Mary's Hall 4-5.30 PM to welcome people who want to share their language or practice any language that they are learning or have learned.
The language tables that are available on a regular basis are Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Persian, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish and new for Spring '24 ASL. However, if you would like to practice a language that is not listed here, let us know at languagehouse@umd.edu!
We strive to connect with other programs on campus, like the Language Partner Program and the International Student and Scholar Services.
Save the following Mondays and come join us!
