Saerom Kwak is a lecturer in the Korean language program. She received her MA in Korean Language Education from Korea University. Before joining the University of Maryland, she worked as a Korean language instructor in the School of East Asian Studies at the University of Sheffield in the UK from 2020 to 2023. She also taught at Korea University’s Liberal Arts Education Center and Korean Language Center from 2011 to 2020. At Korea University, she completed her PhD coursework in Korean language and culture education.
Saerom has been actively involved in the development of Korean language educational materials. In 2019, she worked as an assistant researcher for the “Online Developing Korean Language Curriculum and Contents” project funded by the South Korean government’s King Sejong Institute Foundation. In this project, she designed and developed the online Korean textbook titled, King Sejong Online Textbook for Beginners, along with supplementary materials. She holds a certificate of Korean Language Teacher Level 1 (Highest Level) from the South Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (2018) and a certificate of TOPIK (Korean Language Proficiency Test) Examiner from the South Korean Ministry of Education (2019). Her research interests include Korean language education, curriculum development, and language acquisition. She has published multiple articles in Korean.
