Anita Tharmarajah is Program Coordinator for the Persian Flagship Program. Anita graduated from the Persian Flagship Program in May 2023, having interned at Tavaana or the E-Collaborative for Civic Education and presented her research in Persian on Iranian-American attitudes toward protester violence in the aftermath of the Women, Life, Freedom movement in Iran. She previously interned for the International Rescue Committee, using Persian language skills to help Afghan refugees resettle in Maryland. She also was the Persian Flagship Program intern for 3 semesters. Anita served as Chair of Diversity and Inclusion, and then President of Kappa Omega Alpha, the premier public policy fraternity at UMD. She holds bachelor’s degrees in Persian Studies and Government and Politics with a Concentration in International Relations from UMD.
